Prof. Mel Fugate's professional life is comprised of four dimensions: research, teaching, consulting, and textbook writing. His major research streams are:

  • Employee reactions to organizational change

  • Employee cognitions and emotions

  • Leadership and organizational culture

  • Leading change

  • Leadership and emotions

  • Employability and careers

 

Many of the same phenomena he studies are also the focus of his consulting, and his clients often participate in his research. Among his specialties:

  • High performance and agile cultures

  • Organizational strategy

Most generally his research and consulting aim to improve individual and organizational performance by utilizing practical, research-based tools to understand, measure, and motivate change.

 

Prof. Fugate is also an award-winning teacher whose interests span many topics: organizational behavior, leadership, business ethics, ethical leadership, management, strategic human capital, organizational culture, leading and managing change, and performance management.

His teaching experience includes online, face-to-face, and hybrid formats and crosses all levels—PhDs, executives, MBAs, masters, and undergraduates. He has taught in the United States, France, and Australia:

He completed his PhD in management with an emphasis in organizational behavior at Arizona State University. Before pursuing a PhD, Dr. Fugate received a BS in Engineering and Business Administration from Michigan State University, and his previous professional lives included work as a consultant and positions in health care and the pharmaceutical industry.
